Too Early to Say

Manx Care says that refurbishment work at Ramsey District Cottage Hospital is more complex than originally anticipated, following the discovery of structural issues within the building.

The health body says it is too early to confirm a timeline for the reopening of Martin Ward. Once the assessment is complete, Manx Care says it will be in a position to set out a detailed plan.

Manx Care says it is continuing to work closely with the DoI on the project. However, specialist engineering advice is now ongoing to fully assess the condition of the fabric of the building.

A spokesperson for Manx Care said: “During this work, significant challenges have been identified within the fabric of the building, which means the programme to fully reopen the site is more complex than originally anticipated.”

Unit

In the meantime, from mid-May 2026, the Minor Injuries Unit will return to Ramsey District Cottage Hospital, alongside the reopening of diagnostic radiology.

The rehabilitation service previously provided on Martin Ward is temporarily located in Ward 19 at Noble’s Hospital.

Manx Care said: “This arrangement is under review, as the environment is not ideal for all patients with rehabilitation needs and has at times added pressure to patient flow at Noble’s, particularly over the winter period.”

The health body stressed that the review of rehabilitation services is not connected to the development of private patient services at Noble’s Hospital.

Manx Care added: “We recognise the importance of Martin Ward and of services at Ramsey District Cottage Hospital to the local community and will provide further updates as soon as more information is available.”
