J D Wetherspoon has confirmed that it will be opening its first pub on Manx shores.
It has agreed to take over 1886, renaming it The Conister Arms.
Set to open in May company spokesman Eddie Gershon says Spoons is “confident that the pub will appeal to a wide range of people and be an asset to the social scene in the city”.
All existing employees will be offered a job with Wetherspoon and it also plans to hire more staff.
It was recently announced that 1886 had submitted plans to open at 8am, which would coincide with when Wetherspoon usually opens for breakfast.
